Scottsbluff man and woman charged with forgery
A Scottsbluff man and woman have been charged with conspiracy to commit forgery for passing seven forged checks amounting to over $1,700 at local stores.
Court documents say 25 year old James Thorpe and 27 year old Crystal Jay, also known as Crystal Cushing, agreed to use stolen checks from a local bank account to purchase items during May and June. Some of the items were then returned in order to obtain cash.
The court documents say the Scottsbluff Police investigation used surveillance video from Loaf-N-Jug in Gering and the Wal-Mart in Scottsbluff to verify the transactions. The court documents say Thorpe provided cash, cigarettes and diapers to Cushing and another woman for cooperating in the return of items purchased.
Thorpe is being held on $120,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing July 23rd. Cushing will make her first court appearance Monday.
