Strauss pleas no contest in burglary case

The third of three teenagers charged with a January residential Gering break-in has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

18 year old Robbie Strauss agreed Thursday in Scotts Bluff County District Court to enter a no contest plea to a charge of burglary. The other two suspects have already been sentenced in the case.

Byron Stieb and Shane Merrills were each sentenced to serve up to 48 months in prison and pay just over $1,900 in restitution.

Police say the three burglars broke through a basement window to get into a Gering home and once inside ransacked the property. Holes were reportedly drilled in the drywall, beds were overturned and figurines and lamps were broken or damaged. Police also say a variety of property was taken, but nearly all of it was recovered after the arrests.

Strauss has a pre-sentencing hearing scheduled for July 9th.
