Number of uninsured Nebraskans rising

The number of uninsureds in Nebraska has reached a record high of more than 217,000 people. In the past decade, the number of uninsureds in Nebraska has increased by more than 65 percent.

Dr. Jim Stimpson, associate professor in the Center for Health Policy in the UNMC College of Public Health and co-author of the report says one of the reasons fewer people are insured is employer coverage has dropped.

The uninsured can be mostly found in the rural part of Nebraska and this can largely be attributed to the farming occupation and the lack of employer sponsored coverage in that part of Nebraska.
