Wanda was born December 7, 1935 in Scottsbluff, to Francis and Arline (Carpenter) Rockwell. She grew up and received her education here, and graduated with the Scottsbluff High School class of 1954. She attended Scotts Bluff Junior College for one year, and on July 2, 1954, she married Jimmie Lee Messman, Jr., in Torrington, Wyoming. The couple lived in Scottsbluff, and in 1969, her husband was tragically killed in a trucking accident near Woods Landing, Wyoming, leaving her a young widow with five children to raise. Wanda met the job ahead of her with vigor, becoming active in every phase of her children's lives. She attended practices, ball games, school and church programs, and all other activities, and is fondly remembered by her kids for that. In watching all of activities she attended, Wanda became an avid sports fan. After her children were raised, she worked at Scottsbluff Junior High School, Baily's Town and Country Market and finally retiring from the Village at Regional West, all while taking a very active part in her grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. In 2008, she began renal dialysis and had a very special relationship with her two nurses at DaVita, Megan and Holly.

Wanda was an active fifty year member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff.
