Gering celebrates LEED gold certificate

A ceremony at Gering's Lincoln elementary school this morning celebrated the first LEED Gold school in the state of Nebraska. Gering school officials, architects, construction supervisors and Nebraska LEED representatives acknowledged receipt of the LEED Gold Plaque and the LEED Gold certificate which recognized the highest performance in sustainable architecture and construction.

LEED Project Manager Ryan Stearns says he hopes it is a catalyst for other schools to do the same thing.

Stearns says over 90% of the construction waste was recycled and more than a third of the school is built from recycled materials.

Lincoln Principal George Schlothauer says the building offers the best atmosphere for learning, with improved lighting and air circulation plus a a heating and air conditioning system that provides a comfortable environment for students and staff.
