Melvin Kechley, 90, Oshkosh
Melvin Kechley, 90, of Oshkosh, died Friday morning, November 30, 2012, at his home in Oshkosh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Berea Lutheran Church south of Oshkosh with Pastor Sarah Cordray officiating. Interment will follow in the Berea Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.
A memorial has been established in Melvin's name to the Berea Lutheran Church, the Garden County Hospital and Sullivan Hills Camp.

Melvin LeRoy Kechley was born on May 28, 1922 to Elmer LeRoy and Sophena Matilda (Damrow) Kechley in Lewellen. After his father died when he was 3 months old he became the man of the house. He attended rural school until the age of 16 when he left to take over the family farm.
Melvin was united in marriage to Bonnie McCormick on May 18, 1947 on the McCormick Farm. The couple raised 3 daughters living on the Kechley farm near Lewellen. Bonnie passed away on February 4, 1987.
On August 21, 1988 he was united in marriage to Betty June (Robb) Nass at the Berea church. The couple lived on the farm until moving into Oshkosh in 1999.
Melvin worked hard on the farm for many years growing wheat and raising cattle. He was a long term member of the Lutheran Men's Council and very active in the church.
Melvin and Betty enjoyed taking cruises and traveling the world. They spent many winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golfing. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by many.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betty of Oshkosh; 3 daughters, Teresa and husband, Len Russell of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Coleen Ring of Bridgeport, and LaRee and husband, Randy Gompert of Bayard; step-daughter, LaDena Younglund of Mesa, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Bonnie, infant brother, Gilbert LeRoy Kechley, stillborn daughter, Peggy Lea Kechley, and sister, Donna Tophoj.
