OTD concert a big success

Oregon Trail Days Concert Committee Chair Bill Peters is a happy man today. An estimated 1,800 people were at Saturday night's concert featuring the Casey Donahew band, and they were able to get the entire concert in before a good rain hit the Gering area.

This was the first time OTD had scheduled the concert as the kickoff to the week long celebration rather than the culmination of the big week. Peters says booking an up and coming band, one with Gering native (J.J. Soto)as a member, affordable tickets($15 each), and kicking off the celebration with the concert were all reasons it was a big success.

Peters says he was pleased they got a younger crowd, those in their twenties and early thirties, to the concert. Peters says the return of the beer garden at the concert was also a positive.

Peters says the concert definitely made money, which means the experiment to place it on the opening weekend will likely be continued.
