Tompkins: Never aware fireworks permit could be switched to new sponsor
The person listed as the licensed operator for the annual Scottsbluff fireworks show says he was not aware the State Fire Marshall's office was willing to quickly transfer the new sponsor name of Scottsbluff Fireworks Fund to the permit previously under the name of Scottsbluff Jaycees. Danny Tompkins told KNEB News Thursday if he had been aware a permit was approved under the new name, he would have allowed his license to be used under the Scottsbluff Fireworks Fund.
Tompkins admits it was probably too late to put the annual fireworks show on because of all the preparation needed, but he said there was a chance they could have done it. Tompkins also stressed the insurance for the show had to be transferred to the new sponsor name before he would have been willing to go forward with the show. Tompkins said getting the right sponsor name on the insurance is crucial because he was legally responsible for anything that happens during the display.
Tompkins stressed he had no problem with event organizer Tracy Ford listing him as the licensed operator on the permit for the show as long as the sponsor name was not the Scottsbluff Jaycees.
