"Old Fashioned Christmas" scheduled for next weekend

An old fashioned Christmas is slated for Saturday December 1st at the Scotts Bluff National Monument, North Platte Valley Museum, Farm And
Ranch Museum and Chimney Rock National Historic Site.

By long tradition, the Gering attractions have coordinated their Christmas events. This year Chimney Rock National Historic Site is joining the other sites. More thanany previous year, you should plan for a full day of family fun and a step back in time as you visit two museums and two historic sites.

"Christmas on the Prairie" at Scotts Bluff NM offers visitors a
chance to make decorations in the style of 19th century holiday ornaments from 1 am to 4 pm. Children and adults will have a chance to make paper chains, popcorn strings, corn husk stars, pine cone bird feeders and painting dough ornaments to decorate their homes this Christmas. Sing traditional carols to the music of the Village Players and enjoy refreshments courtesy of Oregon Trail Museum Association.

The annual "Trees Along the Trail" competition will begin at North
Platte Valley Museum from 11 am to 4 pm. Trees decorated by community
non-profit organizations will compete for your votes. The ballots will be available for $1.00 each. This is the kickoff event for the December Christmas Tree Decorating Contest, which benefits the museum and area charities. Refreshments and prize money are courtesy of H&R Block.

"High Plains Christmas" at Farm And Ranch Museum will give people an
opportunity to enjoy some outdoor fun from 10 am to 3 pm. Ride in a horsedrawn hay wagon, toast marshmallows, send letters to Santa via Pony Express, enjoy a hot soup lunch and hot chocolate and listen to the Plymouth Congregational Church Choir.

Chimney Rock National Historic Site will celebrate "Christmas on the
Prairie" from 9 am to 4 pm. Visitors will have a chance to make greeting cards and decorate gift bags while they enjoy holiday treats.

Entrance to all of the sites will be free all day on December 1.
