Masterton challenges cities to help with Comm Center upgrades
Scotts Bluff County Board Chair Mark Masterton is challenging the local communities who receive dispatch service from the county's communication center to assist in financing equipment upgrades.
The county sent a letter to the ten communities in late August requesting financial help to cover over $300,000 the county had to budget this year for the required improvements. The request was made on a per capita basis.
Masterton says the local communities should not be balking at helping fund the upgrades because of the service and savings the county has provided over the last twenty years.
Scottsbluff approved $70,000 toward the project, with additional help possible later in the fiscal year. Gering council members said the request came too late in the budget process, and have asked City Administrator Lane Danielzuk to find alternate methods of helping financing the Comm Center.
