FFA Members Rally to Fight Hunger
During the National FFA Convention last week - 10-thousand members, advisors and volunteers packed more than 1-million nutritionally balanced packaged meals to alleviate hunger locally and around the world. Half of the meals will be distributed by Gleaners Food Bank in Indiana and the other half will be distributed by Kids Against Hunger in Haiti. Tyson and Hormel - FFA sponsors -made donations to Gleaners Food Bank during that time. Tyson donated 30-thousand pounds of fresh chicken and Hormel donated more than 35-thousand pounds of chili. The rally also began the organization's Feeding the World-Starting at Home initiative to help FFA members across the U.S. understand how hunger affects their communities and the world. Texas FFA member Jansen Applegate says there are so many hungry children out there that need help - and as part of the FFA creed - he says members aren't in need - so they should help those children.
