Hazardous waste collection day a big success
A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day that was held Saturday was a huge success. While official numbers have not yet been compiled, Keep Scottsbluff/Gering Beautiful Executive Director Kathy Kropuenske says they were again amazed at how many people responded.
Kropuenske said "it was amazing how much paint came in". She said people were also delivering under the sink supplies in boxes, one person saying "I have had this for 30 years and did not know what to do with it."
In addition to yard fertilizer, chemicals and pesticides, under the sink cleaning supplies & chemicals, paint, stains and varnishes, Kropuenske says they also collected a record amount of used oil & antifreeze.
The event was made possible through the courtesy of the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, the cities of Scottsbluff and Gering, Panhandle Coop's Main Street Market, and Keep Scottsbluff/Gering Beautiful.
