Power outage impacts WNCC communications
Western Nebraska Community College is currently experiencing communication difficulties due to a transformer failure during a scheduled power outage by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).
All College communication has been affected, including WNCC's telephone system, college email, the student and faculty portal, which is used to access college information, and the Blackboard Learning System.
WNCC initially scheduled this power outage for today, Monday, October 14, because students are currently on fall break and faculty and staff are in an all-day in-service. This scheduled 45 power outage was not intended to cause any disruption to operations.
Vice President of Administrative services Bill Knapper says, "When the transformer failed, our IT department gracefully shut down all College servers, including the telephone system, to ensure the best possible outcome. "
Knapper says a transformer is being delivered to WNCC from York, Nebraska this evening and all non-academic operations will resume Tuesday, October 15."
WNCC students are on fall break through tomorrow, October 15. The second 8-week classes begin Wednesday, October 16.
