Harms to introduce legislation to change seat belt and texting laws
The first session of the 103rd Nebraska Legislature is scheduled to convene next Wednesday (1/9) and Scottsbluff Senator John Harms says he plans to introduce legislation on both seat belts and texting, that would make the current laws primary offenses as opposed to secondary.
Harms says these are just common sense measures that can save lives and also reduce insurance costs for everyone.
Harms says law enforcement tells him the current texting law is nearly impossible to enforce as a secondary offense. Harms is hoping data that shows the risk of not using seat belts and texting while driving will help convince his colleagues to make the changes in the two laws.
