AHS principal in hot water for shutting down pledge
Alliance Superintendent Troy Unzicker is not saying whether Alliance High Principal Pat Jones will be disciplined for not having students say the Pledge of Allegiance.
On Monday of last week Jones told students they wouldn't be reciting the pledge that day, pointing out that the federal government had been partially shut down since Oct. 1. Scottsbluff station KDUH reports that some students were outraged by Jones' decision, and one woman said her son stood up in class and recited the pledge anyway.
Unzicker (UHN'-zih--kur) told The Associated Press Monday that Jones hadn't cleared his plan with administrators. Unzicker says
it's district policy that teachers lead their classes in reciting the pledge each school day.
