Richard Gordon Larson, 75

Richard Gordon Larson passed away on December 1, 2012, at the age of 75. He was a man of kindness and integrity who was quick with a laugh and had many good friends.

A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Brauer officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps.

Rich was born in Minot, North Dakota on April 24, 1937, to Selmer and Grace Larson. He was an active young man and a Boy Scout. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Minot High School. While stationed at Camp Pendleton he married his high school sweetheart Mardi (Marjorie).

Rich earned his Bachelor's degree in business from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. In 1962, Rich joined the Nash Finch Company. He worked for the company for over 47 years managing stores and advising independent grocery retailers.

Rich and Mardi were an amazing team whose commitment to each other was always evident. They moved several times within North Dakota and Nebraska due to work transfers and settled in Gering in 1977.

Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports, especially football. He went to Husker games whenever he had the chance and never missed a televised game, frequently recording the games and watching them numerous times.

Rich was the proud father of five children and an even prouder grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mardi; their children Lori Larson (Leif Henecke), Scott (Tracie) Larson , Mitch (Leisa) Larson, Mark (Laura) Larson, and Kristin Larson; and grandchildren, Emma, Sam, Grace, Nora, Macy, Eliana, Chelsie, and Derrick. He is also survived by his sister, Vivian (Rob) King; brother, Gary (Pat) Larson; brother-in-law, Bernie (Eloise) Pellenwessel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Jeanette Pellenwessel, and niece Mary Helen Fichtner.
