Chauncey arraignment set for District Court

A scheduled first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court for a former Gering resident charged in the 2008 death of two year old Juliette Geurts was not held Monday, as the case has been filed directly to District Court. 26 year old Dustin Chauncey is charged with manslaughter and felony child abuse resulting in death. Chauncey's District Court arraignment will be this Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

Chauncey, the child's mother Charyse Geurts and another male were in the Gering home when Charyse reported she found Juliette dead in her crib on July 11th, 2008. The case has been investigated as a homicide after the autopsy showed the child died of blunt force trauma.

Geurts was charged with being an accessory to a felony and providing false information but the charges were dismissed earlier this month due to statute of limitations requirements. Chauncey has been in the Colorado corrections system after he was sentenced earlier this year to four years in prison on firearms and drug charges.
