LaVerne A. Osterndorff, age 100, of Craig, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 1, 2017, 10:30 am, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m., with family receiving friends, at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. Visitation will also be held at the Church one hour prior to service. LaVerne Alma Wilhelmina Osterndorff was born February 24, 1917 to Carl and Esther (Robertson) Strelo on the family farm near Bertha, Nebraska. She passed away November 28, 2017 at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 100 years.
LaVerne received her early education at the Bertha and Divide Center schools. She graduated from Oakland High School at the age of 16.
On April 3, 1940, she married LeRoy Osterndorff at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. To this union three children were born; Carl, Larry and Lela.
She was a homemaker for many years, then worked at the olive packing plant in Oakland and at Oakland Memorial Hospital in the laundry department.
LaVerne was active in many organizations. She was a member of and held offices in the Pleasant Homemakers Extension Club, Rebekah Lodge, Logan Valley Quilt Guild, Oakland Garden Club, First Lutheran Mary Group and the Dorcas Society. She helped with sewing at First Lutheran for many years. LaVerne was the Plant and Flower Superintendent at the Burt County Fair for over 50 years, where she received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award and the Joe Roh Award. She also belonged to several card clubs. LaVerne spent her entire life on her family farm. She loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; husband, LeRoy.
Her memories are cherished by her sons, Carl and Larry Osterndorff of Craig; daughter, Lela (Brad) Heineman of Pender, NE; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Huntington and Tanner Heineman of Pender; great grandchildren, Ostern Heineman and Jovi Huntington; sister-in-law, Faye Chaffee of Omaha; nieces and nephews.
