Ron was born May 14, 1951 in Sidney, to Kenneth and Irene (Stull) Mitchell. Ron was one when his father was stricken with polio, and at the age of 17 he lost his father to polio. Ron graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1969.

Ron met and married Catherine Howe on June 27, 1970. Three daughters were born to this union: Cassie Elizabeth, Catina Lynn and Chantell Rose. They were later divorced. He lost his daughter, Chantell Rose, in 1997.

Ron worked for Lockwood Corporation, Uranium Mine outside of Casper (one of his favorite jobs), and the City of Scottsbluff where he worked for 23 years. He then worked for Railcrew Express until ill health forced him to leave; he made many friends. He was a stranger to no one and helped so many people. The hardest thing for Ron was having to quit working.

Special thanks to all of the cardiologists and nurses in ICU.

Survivors include his mother, Irene Bernhardt; children, Cassie Elizabeth Weller and Catina Lynn Gonzalez (fiancé Bobby); grandchildren, Christopher (Alyssa) Mitchell-Gonzalez, Cassandra Weller, Austin Weller, Brenna Mitchell-Martinez, and Brianna (Kenny); great grandchildren, Kylo Reid Mitchell-Gonzalez, Phil, Koby, Aaliyah and Khadin Campos; brother, Rick (Jackie) Bernhardt; sisters, Patricia Mitchell and Connie Wickert; and special friend, Cathy.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Mitchell; step-father, Daniel Bernhardt who raised Ron from a young age; and daughter, Chantell Rose.
