Bluffs man arrested for theft from unlocked cars

A Scottsbluff man who said he canvassed local parking lots looking to take items from unlocked cars has been charged with the theft of $500 from a victim’s wallet.

28 year old Matthew Ralston is accused of taking the money from a wallet left in a vehicle in a downtown parking lot at Avenue A and 18th Street the evening of March 31st. Video surveillance footage from a city camera and a nearby business developed the description of a suspect, and when Ralston was picked up taking a lighter and papers from a car near Lincoln Heights elementary April 13th, he was brought to the Police department for an interview.

During the interview Ralston admitted to regularly searching unlocked vehicles and later in the interview admitted to being in the downtown parking parking lot on the date in question and taking money from the vehicle.
