A former coach at Southeast High School in Yoder has pleaded guilty to a charge of ‘Third Degree Sexual Abuse of a Minor by a Person in Authority’.
36-year-old Michael Booth entered the guilty plea Monday in Goshen County Court after an effort to suppress his confession made to law enforcement was denied.
Booth was arrested in October following an investigation regarding a May incident where he and the high school victim had sex. Court documents say Booth and the victim confirmed the incident happened; the victim told the investigator she felt pressured into it.
A three day trial was originally scheduled to begin in early May. Goshen County Attorney Kenneth Brown says he expects sentencing to occur in late June or early July; and will need to conduct a pre-sentence investigation.
Booth faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced.
