Middle portion of Saddle Rock trail closed, expected to reopen Thursday

Its going to be a heavy lift for County Road and Highway departments, most of which operate on tight budgets anyway, as work begins this week to repair washed out and damaged roads, bridges and culverts, not only here in Scotts Bluff County, but other western Nebraska counties as well following severe storms and heavy rains ThursdayFriday and into Saturday.

If barracades are in place, it is for a good reason…. and not every washout may be marked, so caution is advised. The damage assessments to roads, facilities and crops will continue today.

Out at Scotts Bluff National Monument, Saddle Rock Trail–the hiking trail– isclosed.  Rain over the past several days created 3 areas of soil and rock slidesin the middle section.  The plan is to have the trailed cleared and open by Thursday morning.  Parts of the hiking trail are open from the visitor center up past the Scott Spring, and from the top, down to the stairs.
