Just weeks after accepting the position as Torrington’s new Chief of Police position, David Hulshizer has told city officials that he is now declining the job.
City officials were contacted by Hulshizer on Tuesday, and he said he was withdrawing his acceptance of the position. Hulshizer cited “personal reasons” and refused to elaborate. He was slated to begin his new duties on June 11th.
Now, the City of Torrington will immediately pursue other qualified candidates to fill the position.
The Torrington Police Department has been searching for a permanent Police Chief following the October, 2016 termination of former Chief Eric Sharp; who had fled the scene of an accident he was involved in.
Doug Weeks and Michael Matthews had both served as interim Chief of Police since Sharp’s termination.
