A candlelight vigil has been organized for Wednesday evening to remember those who lost their lives in the Orlando shooting.
The vigil at 8 p.m. at 18th Street and Broadway is being organized by the local LBGT community, which spokesperson Fernando Salazar says has a strong presence in the panhandle and wants to remember those who perished. Salazar noted he personally knew one of the victims, but added whether you were familiar with someone or not, the shooting had an impact on everyone.
Salazar says they invite people to set aside differences, come together and attend the vigil whether they are part of the LBGT community or not.
Salazar says he expects at least 200 people to attend and is asking those attending to bring candles or call him at 702-666-5079 if you have candles to donate.
Another vigil for the Orlando victims, separate from the one organized by Salazar, will be held Sunday 8:30 pm at Centennial Park, located at 5th Ave and 20th Street in Scottsbluff.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own candles ( although candles will be available) or a small flashlight (in case wind is an issue) if there is a larger than expected crowd. There will be a reading of names, an interfaith prayer and an opportunity to share thoughts and emotions.
