Now in its second year, the 2016 LGBT Panhandle Pride Picnic will take place in Gering this weekend.
Jeff Leanna is the chair of this year’s picnic, and he says everybody is welcome to attend, and it doesn’t matter if they are a member of the LGBT community, a family member or a friend.
“Our organization is excited and honored to sponsor this exciting event that celebrates the diversity of the LGBT community in western Nebraska,” explains Leanna.
The event sponsors will provide pizza, grilled foods and beverages. Participants are encouraged to bring pot luck items such as side dishes, desserts and additional non-alcoholic refreshments. Donations are also appreciated to help defer costs.
“This event will be an excellent opportunity to educate our communities about LGBT issues and provide an opportunity for individuals and families within the LGBT community, their family, friends and other community allies to socialize in a safe environment,” added Leanna.
The picnic will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Legion Park in Gering.
The mission of Panhandle PRIDE is to celebrate the diversity of LGBT culture and community. We strive to educate the general community and the LGBTQA communities about the needs issues and various aspects of LGBT people. LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered.
