Spencer pleased with lack of rowdy activity at Scottsbluff MMA fights

Scottsbluff Police Chief Kevin Spencer says he was generally pleased with how the outdoor MMA fights went Saturday night in downtown Scottsbluff.

Spencer had originally expressed concern about the event, which was sponsored by Legion Combat Sports and Shots Bar & Grill. But Spencer says getting enough security at the event helped it run fairly smooth.

Spencer said,  “There was some activity and disturbances, but nothing outrageous or unexpected.  Looking at the log there were four arrests, two for disorderly conduct and two on warrants. I think bar and event staff handled the situations appropriately and they were taken care of right away.”

The event and bar staff had 37 security personnel at the event and there were four on duty police officers on hand as well.

Spencer said he would be open to a similar event again in the future, with some minor adjustments. He said it took a long time to put the martial arts cage up downtown, so moving the actual event to a later time to keep the downtown businesses open longer may be something he would look at.
