A workforce housing bill that Gering Senator John Stinner has championed for two years has been passed into law, as Governor Pete Ricketts signed the bill for final approval today.
The bill now allows communities in Nebraska to use tax increment financing and other incentives to help pay for work force housing in rural communities and other sectors in the state.
Stinner says the bill will encourage the building and renovation of multiple homes by contractors in rural communities and targeted urban areas, reducing construction costs.
“I am proud to announce that the Governor signed my workforce housing bill today,” says Stinner. “LB496 is an essential tool for attracting workforce to our communities. Thank you to all those who have lent me their support and Governor Ricketts for your final approval.”
Stinner’s bill was approved last week in the legislature on a 35-8 vote.
