Tinted window traffic stop leads to drug arrests

A pair of 21 year old men were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Gering Sunday.

Court documents say Avery Wheeler and Isaiah Robles are each being charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of hashish.

The documents indicate a Scotts Bluff County Sheriff deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red 2004 GMC Yukon for illegal window tint just before 4 p.m. Sunday at Kimball Avenue and Birch Street in Gering.

After indicating that he could smell the odor of burnt and raw marijuana, the deputy had both individuals step out of the vehicle.

A search by deputies and Gering Police located two back packs with grocery sacks containing suspected marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana in the two bags was just over 20 ounces.

Several items from a marijuana dispensary were also located in the Yukon, including 5 marijuana cigarettes and a THC infused drink.

Both Wheeler and Robles were taken into custody and transported to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, where they were awaiting a first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court Monday.
