WNED committed to regional implementing housing plan

The Western Nebraska Development Group is planning a kickoff meeting in late July to get key parties together to discuss implementation of a regional housing plan.

The plan has identified the need for new workforce housing, in both the rental and family ownership areas, plus rehabilitation of existing housing.

Scottsbluff City Manager Nathan Johnson says financing and contractor availability are both issues in getting more housing built, but so is the lack of infrastructure. Johnson says when the developer has to extend the water and sewer services to their site and construct roads, in addition to what they are spending on the purchase of lots , it makes in difficult financially  to move forward on new housing.

Johnson says all the communities in the economic development group hare committed to implementing the housing plan and not letting it sit on the shelf. Area bankers, contractors and developers will all be invited to the meeting, which has a tentative date of July 20th.
