Here’s a look at the Zephyrs action from Thursday night and the legion schedule for the weekend.
Gering Platte Valley Companies (at Crete Tournament)
Gering PVC 17, Lincoln Christian 9…Gering rallied from down 9-2 using a 4 run fourth, a 4 run fifth and a 7 run sixth inning to win their opener this morning at the Crete Tournament. Austin Abbott and Quinten Janacek combined for 8 RBI. The two teams combined for 12 errors defensively. Abbott started and worked into the fourth inning allowing 9 runs (only 3 were earned). Brayden Tarr picked up the win in relief working 2 1/3 innings allowing just one unearned run.
Gering PVC 6, Pleasant Dale 3…It was another big come from behind win for PVC in game two at Crete this morning. Trailing 3-0 heading to the fifth inning they were able to score one then in the sixth inning they posted a big five spot to take control. Austin Abbott went 4-4 at the plate to lead the hitters. Chris Palomo handled everything on the mound. After allowing three early runs he settled in and struck out 8 for the six inning complete game win. Gering’s record now at 8-10.
Saturday: 7 a.m. vs. Wilber
Kearney 10, Zephyrs 2…Trent Richter was only able to last one inning last night as the Z’s had their six game winning streak snapped. After scoring two in the top of the first inning Westco watched Kearney post an 8 run bottom of the first inning. Richter walked four, allowed three hits, 8 runs (only 3 were earned), and struck out one. RBI’s went to Cooper Buckhammer and Evan Hughes.
Kearney 10, Zephyrs 2…Score wise, a carbon copy of game one. This time it was a 6 run bottom of the first inning for Kearney as they never looked back. Gunnar Buckhammer was knocked around for 11 hits, 9 runs (6 earned), with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. Westco committed three errors defensively. Two hits for Evan Hughes who also had an RBI. Trevor Garcia knocked in the other run.
- Westco has two games later today at Bellevue East at 4 p.m. and 6:30. Then tomorrow games at Papillion Lavista South starting at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
