Here’s the legion baseball weekend rundown.
Weather played a big part in the weekend for the Z’s. After dropping a pair of games at Kearney on Thursday, Westco was only able to play one game on their eastern swing.
Friday: Westco 4, Bellevue East 0…Braden Lofink got the start and the finish. The lefty tossed a six inning complete game shutout, registering 9 strikeouts along the way without walking a batter. He allowed just four hits. Westco outhit East 7-4. Paul Panduro went 2-3 with 2 runs scored while Trent Richter drove in a pair.
Game two against Bellevue East on Friday and two games against Papillion Lavista South on Saturday were wiped out due to bad weather.
The Zephyrs will take a 10-13 record into a road game at the Cheyenne Mustangs on Tuesday night. KNEB will have coverage on 960/100.3 and kneb.com starting at 5:45 with first pitch at 6 p.m.
Gering Platte Valley Companies
Gering went on the road to the Crete Tournament and won the championship finishing with a record of 4-0. After wins over Lincoln Christian and Pleasant Dale on Friday morning they knocked off Wilber 12-0 on Saturday morning. At 3-0 they moved into a title game against host Crete yesterday.
Sunday: Gering PVC 8, Crete 0…Gering rolled to the tournament championship with a combination of good starting pitching and a great effort from the top of the lineup. Brent Barge went five innings and struck out four for the win on the mound. Barge, Mike Gutherless, and Austin Abbott combined to go 8-10 hitting in the one through three spots in the lineup.
Gering is now 10-10 on the season and they’ll head to Alliance on Tuesday. We’ll have KNEB.tv coverage starting at 6:45 of 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
The Express went 5-1 at the Cheyenne Tournament.

Gering Juniors went 1-3 at Hastings Tournament.

Gering is now 16-6 on the season and they’ll play the front end of the JR/SR twin bill at Alliance tomorrow night starting at 5 p.m.
