Bulldogs go 1-2 on opening day

The softball season opened in Aurora Friday for the Gering High Bulldogs. They went 1-2 with a 9-1 against Central City in the third game. The Bulldogs opened with 11-5 and 12-6 losses to St. Paul and Aurora respectively.

In the opener, St Paul jumped on Gering for five first inning runs. Booke Doggett had two rbi and Jessica Rogers homered for the Bulldogs.

Gering took a 1-0 lead against Aurora in the top of the first inning of game two, but the Huskies came back with a three run bottom of the first to take the lead for good. They led 5-1 when Gering rallied to within 5-3 with two runs in the top of the fourth. However, Aurora answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Gering scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to pull to within 7-5, but Aurora put the game away with a four run bottom of the fifth.
Isabel Wolf and Rogers each had two rbi for the Bulldogs, while Isabel Thompson scored two runs.

Rogers capped a big day at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance against Central City. She added her second home run of the day and winning pitcher Mikayla Butler also had a two run shot. Both came in the third inning.

Gering will be back in to action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Scottsbluff. The first game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. You can listen to the double dip on KNEB-AM and kneb.com with Rob Barney beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the Contryman Associates Pregame Show.

Scottsbluff opened its season as well Friday, dropping two games at Sterling, CO. The Tigers won the opener 12-2 and the nitecap 15-2.
