Four area teams qualify for state
It was a good day on the golf course for a number of area girls golf teams Monday. At the Class B-4 District golf tournament at the Holdrege Country Club Gering and Scottsbluff qualified for next Monday and Tuesday's state tournament in Lincoln.
The Bulldogs finished second in the teams standings to McCook. Scottsbluff was third. The top three teams and 10 individuals qualify for the state tournament. McCook shot a 371, Gering a 378 and Scottsbluff a 384.
Kaitlyn Krzyzanowski of Gering was the meet medalist with an 81. The 81 was the second best individual score statewide in Class B Monday. Krzyzanowski finished five strokes ahead of Megan Pilkington of Scottsbluff, who finished second. The Bearcats also had Megan Pilkington finish 6th and Jordan York tied for 10th.
Alliance's Danielle Brennan also qualified for next week's state tournament at Mahoney Golf Course by finishing ninth.
The Class C-5 District Tournament was held at the West Winds Golf Course in Ogallala Monday. The hosts won the tournament with a 357. That was eight strokes better than second place Chadron. Bridgeport nailed down the third qualifying position with a 428.
Chadron's Kelli Haynes won her fourth straight district championship with a 78. Teammate Kortney Hageman was fourth with an 88 and another Cardinal, Taylor Strotheide tied for 10th with a 98.
Bridgeport was led by Tara Harding with a 7th place 94. A number of other area golfers also qualified for the C state tournament in Columbus with top ten finishes. Emily Snyder of Mitchell was fifth with a 92. JayLee Pilkington of Bayard was eighth with a 95 and Brooke Hager of Kimball was 10th with a 98.
