WNCC volleyball upsets #1 Southern Idaho
SALT LAKE CITY – The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team received a 22-kill performance from Danika Youngblood as the No. 6 Cougars upended pre-season No. 1-ranked College of Southern Idaho in four sets to open the Salt Lake Community College tournament on Friday.
The Cougars captured the first two sets 25-18, 25-20 before falling in the third 20-25. WNCC rebounded while receiving clutch kills from Lauren Knox down the stretch to capture the fourth set 25-22.
Youngblood led the team with 22 kills and 19 digs. Also coming on strong for the Cougars was Allora Tanner who finished with eight kills and two blocks, while Lauren Knox had six kills and five digs. Also for the Cougars, Kat Agson had five kills, two blocks and two digs; Priscila Mendes had four kills and 18 digs; Yoro Tovar had two kills and six blocks; Luiza Martins had 41 set assists and eight digs; Megan Johnson had three kills; Morgan Broussard had two set assists and a dig; Alex Rivera had 21 digs; and Tasha Meyer had five digs.
WNCC, 5-1, will continue play in the tournament as they face Salt Lake Community College at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. They will wrap up the tournament on Saturday when they face North Idaho at 9 a.m. and Snow College at 1 p.m.
