Sidney gets 20th win of season

The Sidney volleyball team registered its 20th win of the season Tuesday night at Gering, but it didn't come easy.

Sidney, who had beaten the Bulldogs three previous times during the season, losing just one set, was pushed to the limit by the hosts before pulling out a 19-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-8 win.

"It was our youth that showed through again," Gering coach Craig Schadwinkel afterwards. "But I told the girls we played two sets the way we can on a regular basis.

"We did some good things at the net," Schadwinkel added. "Katie(O'Boyle) played well tonight, and we were aggressive with our serves."

O'Boyle was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game for her efforts.

"We did some good things tonight," the sophomore said. "I couldn't have made some of the plays I made without good sets from Kelsea Prieels and she could have done that without good passes from our other players. It's a team effort."

Sidney is now 20-5 on the year. They will play 15-10 Alliance Thursday. Alliance won at Scottsbluff Tuesday 25-9, 25-21, 25-22. Scottsbluff will close out its home schedule against North Platte Thursday.

Gering dropped to 6-22 on the season. They will close its home schedule Thursday against Bridgeport. We will have the broadcast on KNEB-AM and kneb.com.
