LiveWell participants lose big

Lincoln-The Nebraska Sports Council has announced final results, overall winners and 3rd period prize recipients for the recently completed LiveWell Team Challenge. Over the 84 days of reporting, 2,359 participants lost a total of 13,198 lbs., an average of 5.59 lbs. per person, the best in the program's history. Participants also racked up over 9 million activity minutes and burned over 68 million calories, averaging 45 minutes per day and 343 calories burned through exercise.

Pete Dennis of Lincoln, participating alongside co-workers at Cedars Youth Services, earned a weekend trip to Kansas City for his efforts in the Challenge. After suffering a mild heart-attack last September, Dennis used the Challenge to get back into running, which he did with gusto, losing more than 40 lbs. in the process.

Other trip winners included Sara Mahalek of Alma and Jayne Kapke of Pleasant Dale. Mahalek, who had a baby last July, used the Challenge as motivation to ditch junk food and exercise daily, in the process losing 10 lbs. of "baby weight".
