Wood 7th in long jump
It's been the Kelsy Wood show so far this morning a the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium.
The Hemingford senior has competed in three events, with one yet to go, qualifying for the finals in two events and finishing seventh in the other.
Wood has qualified first in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the 100 meters, and most recently was seventh in the Class C long jump. Her effort was 16-6. The winning jump was 17-7.
Wood still has the prelims for the 300 low hurdles early this afternoon.
Bayard's Miah Vera came close to placing in the long jump. The top eight score. She finished ninth with a jump of 15-10. She was just three inches behind the eighth place finisher.
In the girls 400 meters Alisha Hunsaker of Kimball and Jessica Kildow of Bridgeport failed to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Kildow was the D-11 champ.
A couple of area boys came close to qualifying in the 400. Ethan Skinner of Hemingford was 5th in the first heat where the first four finishers did qualify. In the second heat Travis Willhoite of Bayard was third, and the top two qualified.
Hemingford sophomore Kaelia Nelson did not place in the Class C 3200 finals.
