Chadron downs Gering in volleyball

Kelsea Prieels was the KNEB Taco-John's Player-of-the-Game

It was a clean sweep for the Chadron Cardinals at Gering Thursday night. The visitors took three volleyball matches from the Bulldogs. After gaining wins in the freshman and junior varsity matches, Chadron topped off the evening with a 25-16, 25-23 and 25-20 win in the varsity action.

Despite the loss Gering coach Craig Schadwinkel was pleased with his teams effort. "Chadron is a good ballclub and they took advantage of some things," he said on the KNEB postgame show. "But our kids hung in there and played well.

"We have come such a long way since the opening match last weekend," he added. "I just can't say enough. It leaves me rubbing my hands in anticipation."

Gering took the second set down to the wire. They led most of the set and were tied at 23-23 before Chadron pulled it out. The third set also was close throughout.

Gering junior setter Kelsea Prieels was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game. "I have tried to mold the team around her," Schadwinkel said. "She can make a lot of thinks happen."

Gering is now 2-5 on the year. Chadron moves to 2-0. They will meet again next Thursday at a Chadron hosted triangular.

The Bulldogs next action is at home this Saturday when they host North Platte and Alliance.
