Gering season ends with first round loss to Gretna
Two first half goals stood up for the Gretna Dragons Friday morning and the defending state champions moved on to the semifinals of the Class B Girls State Soccer Tournament at Creighton University in Omaha with a 2-0 win over Gering.
"We played really well," said Gering coach Lisa Freeburg. "We hung with a team that beat No. 1 Omaha Skutt. We had some chances in the second half. I'm proud of the way the girls played."
Gretna moves to 13-4 on the year and will have a match-up in the semifinals with Elkhorn South who topped Lincoln Lutheran/Raymond Central 4-0.
Gering ends its season at 13-5. The Bulldogs were making their second straight appearance at state and fourth overall. The 2-0 loss was the closest game Gering has ever played at state.
"There are a lot of special girls on this team," Freeburg said. "They have worked hard to accomplish a great season. I am proud of them."
