Zephyrs top Torrington 12-2

The WESTCO Zephyrs played a complete game while downing Torrington 12-2 in a game called in the 7th because of the ten run rule Wednesday night at Cleveland Field.

"We played a good game tonight," Zephyrs coach Mark Moran said afterwards. "We hit the ball well, we fielded well and we got a well pitched game from Dylan Busskohl."

Busskohl went the distance on the hill surrendering just six hits an one earned run. He picked up his fifth win of the season in eight decisions.

The bats were also working for the Zephyrs. They banged out 11 safeties against three Torrington pitchers. Three different players, Joe Moran, Tharyn Curtis and Ty Wilson had two hits each. Curtis banged out a three-run homer over the leftfield fence in the third inning, while Moran had a two-run inside the park homer in the fourth.

Curtis' home run gave the Zephyrs a 4-0 lead after three. Torrington scored a run in the top of the fourth, but the Z's countered with another three run inning in the fourth to go up 7-1. They stretched the lead to 10-1 in the fifth with another three run inning, highlighted by run scoring hits by Ty Dunkel and Joe Sanchez.

The Zephyrs moved to 33-18 on the year with the win and will host the Scottsbluff Screen Printing Tournament this weekend. That will close out the regular season for the team with Area 7 Tournament play beginning on the 20th in Hastings. The Zephyrs will go in as the number two seed behind Kearney. They will have a first round game against third seeded North Platte.

Torrington dropped to 8-19 on the year, losing for the third time to the Zephyrs.
