Gering dominates selections

Gering's Class B Senior Legion state championship team dominated selections for the Panhandle Baseball Conference All-Conference team announced Wednesday.

Gering placed four players on the first team and three more on the second squad as voted on by the five league coaches.

Zach Smith and Grant Rimington both earned two first team selections. Both were selected as infielders and pitchers. Smith was also named the Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

Joining Smith and Rimington on the first team were outfielder Nate Marquez an infielder Danny O'Boyle.

Gering players on the second unit included outfielders Colin Chatterton and Walker Britsch along with infielder Reggie Reyes.

Head coach Doug Jones was named Coach-of-the-Year.

The junior team was also well represented. Outfielder Dillon DeMott was named to the first team as an outfielder. He was also named the junior Offensive Player-of-the-Year.

Joining DeMott on the first team were infielder Nate Ferreyra, catcher Gage Smith and pitcher Caleb Geary.

On the second unit were infielders Logan Conn, Nick Ferreyra and Esai Hernandez. Mike Jones was named Coach-of-the-Year.

Gering, Alliance, Buckley, Chadron and Sidney comprise the Panhandle Baseball Conference.
