Gering rallies for win
Gering snapped a nine-game losing streak Saturday in a come-from-behind, 5-4, win over Poudre Valley of Fort Collins at Cleveland Field in Scottsbluff.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Poudre Valley broke through for two runs against Caleb Geary and Platte Valley Companies.
Gering, though, game right back with a three run top of the fifth to take a short lived lead as Poudre Valley regained a 4-3 edge with a two run bottom of the inning.
PVC tied the contest with a single run in the sixth. Dillon DeMott scored Gage Smith, who led off the inning with a single with a one-out sacrifice fly.
Gering scored the winning run in the top of the seventh when Walker Britsch came home on a bases load walk to Nick Ferreyra. Britsch had led off the inning reaching on an error. He advanced to second on a single by Austin Ferguson, then to third after an infield single by Elijah Timblin.
Geary battled through several jams and went the distance for PVC to register his second win of the season in three decisions.
Gering is now 7-14 on the year with a 2:30 p.m. game scheduled Sunday against WESTCO. Their scheduled game last night was rained out. WESTCO's game with Poudre Valley was suspended in the second inning. They will complete that game at 9:30 this morning, then follow that with their regularly scheduled game before the WESTCO-PVC match-up.
