McCook rolls past Scottsbluff girls
The Scottsbluff girls got off to a fast start Friday night against McCook in day two of the East-West shootout, but the host Bearcats couldn't maintain the pace and Bison rolled to a 72-43 win.
Mike Burda's crew led throughout much of the opening quarter, but three straight three point field goals late in the stanza by McCook got the 18-3 Bison a lead that they never looked back from.
The late Bison barrage gave them a 23-to-16 lead after one period. They then outscored Scottsbluff 22-to-8 in the second quarter to take a 21 point, 45-24 lead into the lockerroom.
The Bison, who set a school record with their 17th win Thursday at Alliance, had a balanced scoring attack led by Brooklyn Trew with 18 points. Rachel Goltl added 16. Kassidy Gillen had 15 points and Megan Ruppert chipped in with 12.
Scottsbluff, coming off its second win of the season Thursday against Lexington, had two double figure scorers in Kiley Guerue and Toni Rosado. They both scored 10. Rosado added 10 rebounds, seven coming in the first quarter, to record her second consecutive double-double.
Freshman Chesney Walker added eight points and four rebounds for the Bearcats and was named the KNEB Taco John's Player of the Game.
Scottsbluff will tangle with North Platte Saturday. That game has been moved up to a 12:30 tipoff following the junior varsity game, scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Bearcats won the girls junior varsity game Friday 45-to-25.
