WNCC set to host Cougar Madness
The Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team will be holding a Cougar Madness on Monday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
The Cougar Madness will feature a scrimmage, a 3-point shootout and a dunk contest. Oct. 1 is the first official day that junior college basketball teams can begin practice.
The Cougars finished last season at 26-7, which was the most wins in a season since the 2004-05 campaign. The Cougars return three players from last year in Tahir Little, Sebastian Suarez, Cody Johnson, and Charles Ward. Ward and Johnson redshirted last season. Three of the newcomers include Zach Clemens, Isaiah Castellaw, and Rich Williams from the Class B state champion Scottsbluff basketball team. Also joining the team is Trey Moore of Papillion-Lavista. Moore also played for North Platte High School.
Other members of the team include Quante Cooley and Willie Mangum of Richmond, Virg.; Doudou Gueye and Youssoupha Kane of Dakar, Senegal; and Chad Calcaterra of Cloquet, Minn.
The Cougars open the season Nov. 2-3 at the Gillette Classic. The early season schedule has the team facing three of the last five year national champions as they face last year's national champion South Plains College on the road on Nov. 6. They will also face College of Southern Idaho and Salt Lake Community College in a tournament in Casper on Nov. 16-17.
The Cougar's first home contest is Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Western Wyoming Community College.
