Gering and Scottsbluff get softball wins
Both Gering and Scottsbluff picked-up convincing softball wins Tuesday night. Gering topped visiting Alliance 15-2 in three innings, and Scottsbluff whipped host Chadron 11-1 in five innings.
For Gering it was their 29th win of the season and third lopsided win against 1-19 Alliance. The host Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first but quickly took control in the bottom half of the inning by scoring four runs.
Molly Bonuchi's team put the game away with an 11-run second inning as they sent 16 batters to the plate.
Jessica Rogers and Brooke Doggett both hit inside-the-park home runs in the inning. Doggett's was a grand slam. For her efforts and some good defensive play during the contest Doggett was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game.
The 20- win season is the fourth all-time for Gering. The team's all-time record for wins is 22, set in 2002 when Chuck Richter's team qualified for state, the school's only trip.
Scottsbluff, who qualified for the state last season, moved to 14-13 with it's win at Chadron.
