Bayard still looking for first win

A district championship doesn't always correlate to success at state. The Bayard Tigers, the District D4 titlists last week in Sutherland are still looking for a first win at the State Wrestling Championships at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.

The Tigers have 10 wrestlers competing. The first four have lost matches, including district champ Lane Kizzire. The 145-pounder lost a heartbreaker in overtime, 3-1. at 138 Kyler sides lost by a pin at 1:40. So did teammate Brandon Bowers at 132. He lost at the 4:57 mark. Robert Neizwaag started the day for Bayard suffering a major decision loss at 120.

After a win by CJ Sidrow at 106 to start the day. Morrill has suffered three straight losses. At 132 Matthew Unrein lost by technical fall. And at 138 and 145 respectively Garrett Zwiebel and Elvariste Gomez were pinned.

Hemingford finished its first round with one win in three tries. Cash Weber moves on at 138 the the quarterfinals after a pin in just :42.

Hay Springs is a perfect 3-for-3 so far. After pins by Chris and Levi Ray district champ Joey Johnson won a 5-2 decision at 132.

Sioux Counties William Skavdahl lost his first round 145 pound match by a pin at the 1:44 mark.
