Wheatland sweeps PVC
Tyler Pollock fired a second game one-hitter that helped Wheatland to a doubleheader sweep at Gering Wednesday night.
Wheatland took the second game 9-0 after slipping by PVC in the opener, 6-5.
Pollock struck out eight and walked four in his shutout effort. He and Tim Beckert also shined at the plate, combining for eight hits and three rbi.
The second contest was never in doubt as Wheatland scored three in the first inning and led 5-0 after two.
The first game was a different story. Wheatland scored a single run in the top of the first inning then added four more in the fourth, but PVC battled back.
They scored three in the bottom half of the fourth. Gage Smith had the key hit, a run scoring double. Gering got to within 5-4 with a run in the fifth. Austin Ferguson blasted a rbi triple.
Wheatland added a run in the top of the sixth, but Gering got it back in the bottom of the inning, scoring a run on a passed ball, but a scoreless seventh inning gave the visitors a one-run win.
The doubleheader loss extended Gering's losing streak to eight games and dropped their overall record to 6-13.
PVC is scheduled to play at Sidney tonight, then on Saturday they will play an afternoon game against Poudre Valley at Cleveland Field in Scottsbluff. Saturday night they will tangle with the WESTCO Zephyrs. You can listen to that game on KNEB-AM and kneb.com beginning at 6:45 with the Zone Pregame Show. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
