Scottsbluff rallies to top Gering
It didn't look good for the Scottsbluff volleyball team Tuesday night. They trailed rival Gering two sets to none and were two points away from being swept before rallying, not only to win set three, but the match in five sets.
A near capacity crowd watched Megan Burda's crew rally for a 20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-9 win over the Bulldogs.
"The girls needed to respond to the challenge," Burda said. "And they did. We got off to a slow start, but the girls stepped up with better play in all aspects of the game in the final three sets."
Scottsbluff was never threatened by the Bulldogs in the final two sets.
Both teams entered the night with 2-7 records, with Gering owning a two set win over Scottsbluff at the Gillette Invitational.
Senior Lauren Miller was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game for her efforts for Scottsbluff. Senior Santana Mitchell took the same honor for Gering.
Gering won the freshman match 25-28, 24-26 and 25-23, while Scottsbluff took the junior varsity contest 25-17, 19-25, and 25-15.
Gering will try to rebound in Chadron Thursday. They will play in a triangular that will include Gordon-Rushville. Scottsbluff has nine days off and will return to action a week from Thursday when they play in a triangular at Bridgeport that will include Chadron.
