Franklin wins title

Cody Franklin starred at state cross country in the fall, now he is a headliner at state track

Cody Franklin of Bridgeport reigns as a state champion. The Bulldog senior captured the Class C 3200 meter run at the State Track and Field Championships Friday afternoon in Omaha.

Franklin's time of 9:43.4 was eight seconds faster than the second place finisher. Teammate Branden Nichols finished 22nd.

Franklin's 10 points puts Bridgeport in second place in the Class C standings eight points behind Ord.

Bayard's Megan Stuart put some points on the board for the Tiger girls. She tied for fifth place in the pole vault with an effort of 9-6.

Hemingford's Kelsey Wood finished her busy day by qualifying for her third final Saturday. She won her heat of the 300 low hurdles and qualified fifth overall.

Madison Biesecker of Kimball did not qualify in the event.
