Scottsbluff off to a good start in defending title

The Scottsbluff boys track and field team went to the state meet in Omaha looking to defend its state title...and they are off to a good start.

The first event for the Class B and D performers to start the afternoon session at Burke Stadium was the 3200 relay and the Bearcats won it.

Matthew Barraza, Ben Willis-Teff, Justin Pritchard and Taylor James teamed up to run a 7:57.3, just a second off the Class B record.

The Gering girls scored a point in the 3200 relay by finishing eighth. The Bulldogs quartet included Lauren Shaul, Dakota Gellner, Kali Rimington and Rachel Huffman.

The Scottsbluff girls also competed in the event and finished 15th. The Bearcat team consisted of Taylor Muncie, Vanessa Avalos, Shayleigh James and Kiley Guerue.

In Class D girls Crawford was 10th. Megan Guest, lacie Lietka, Sara Tweet and Sharla Maginnis comprised the Ram team.

Paxton won the Class B boys 3200 relay. Potter-Dix was 15th. Jake Johnson, Cameron Purcell, Luke Johnson and Cooper Hicks made-up the team.
